FROM THE GROOMERS MOUTH:

Straight and honest truth, there is no magic brush, comb, shampoo or spray on the market.  It is simple coat care that will make your doodle look this good.  I use a $6 dollar brush and a $12 dollar comb, my shampoo is all natural Earthbath and I use a cream rinse on legs, ears and tails.  The true trick is proper brushing and DO NOT bathe a matted dog EVER at home.  Go to the groomer, pay them if you have to, but learn how to do proper brushing.  It will pay off...I promise. I own 7 dogs of my own Moyen poodles, Aussiedoodles and a Labradoodle.  I know what a nightmare the coat can be, especially after a week of rain.  I deal with it too, even owning a grooming shop I brush at home.

Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner

I find different coats need different shampoo, so buy small bottles till you find the right one for your doodle. I carry 5 different kinds of Earthbath.  Not to mention Oatmeal and a Hypo as well.  Some shampoos have heavy perfume that can lead to skin irritation, which leads to more matting.

Conditioner 

Believe it or not most conditioners  mat your dog. What, you say, yes mat them.  By not proper rinsing off the coat, it leaves a film on the coat that causes it to tangle much easier, so think twice about those leave-in conditioners and how heavily you leave them in.
